Happy New Year and Welcome to the new WLLID website! As daylight increases a few minutes more each day, it feels like spring is just around the corner!
This is the area where we will keep you updated about our activities and provide information on topics of interest. Our first regular board meeting of 2014 was held on Monday, January 20 at 7 PM at the Wasa Community Hall and we were pleased to share good news with the 18 residents who turned out.
First, our application to the provincial Disaster Fund to repair the dike between Wasa Slough and Cameron Pond (damaged in the 2013 flood) was accepted and work will begin as soon as permits are issued.
Secondly, we have a new WLLID map created according to the instructions in our Letters Patent by the Ministry of Community. In the past, confusion has resulted in our tax roles because different arms of the government have been working with different WLLID boundary maps; now we will all be referring to the same map. In our efforts to correct the discrepancies between the map and our tax roles, we discovered that some property owners were mistakenly included in the tax role. All the taxes they have submitted will be returned to them.
Our final announcement is that the February newsletter will be the last one to arrive via snailmail and from now on, we will rely on email and our website to keep you updated. Please provide your email address to admin@wasalake.ca (if you have not already done so) so we can stay in touch.
The next regular board meeting is Monday February 24 at the Wasa Community Hall. Meetings are open to the public, but you must request permission prior to the meeting if you wish to address the board.
Cheers, Alex Jensen
Chair
PS: Stay tuned for an announcement about the date of the AGM which will be held before May 1, 2014. We will set a date as soon as we confirm a qualified returning officer.
