Water Watch 2014

RDEK Establishes Self-Fill Sandbag Station at Wasa Hall May 30, 2014
A delay in spring melt and snow pack at 135% of normal means the possibility of high water once again at Wasa Lake. The RDEK encourages residents in flood prone areas to take steps now to protect their homes and properties if they feel they may be at risk. The Wasa sandbag station will have pallets of empty sandbags and sand so people can fill as many bags as they think they need.

The public will have to bring their own shovels, ties and other supplies necessary to fill the bags and transport them.  The bags should only be filled half full as they become hard to lift and place.

Contact Emergency Services Coordinator Melody Munro at the RDEK office mmunro@rdek.bc.ca if you have further questions.

if people are experiencing flooding that is impacting access or affecting large areas, it should be reported to 1-800-663-3456 . This is a Provincial coordination centre and is the fastest way to get the best coordinated local response. Only call 9-1-1 if you feel lives are threatened.
