In the summer WLLID takes water samples from six different sites around Wasa Lake. These water samples are dropped of at the Interior Health office in Cranbrook and are tested for E.coli. Results are shared publicly on the Interior Health website.
E.coli is naturally occurring in Wasa Lake and Interior Health reminds all lake users that every living lake has E.coli since birds, duck, fish, amphibians, people, dogs etc. utilize the water and shoreline. A zero E. coli level would mean the lake is dead.
Should the E.coli level ever become unsafe, Interior Health would contact us and signs would be posted at each affected site.
Wasa Lake E.coli test results to date indicate safe waters for swimming as each sample is well below the acceptable (200) safe reading.
